At the time of the unveiling, Gbowee was the last woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize - an honor that she shared with Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf and Tawakkul Karman, Bertha von Suttner was the first woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize (in 1905). Her statue is the first statue of a woman to be placed in the Peace Palace.
